ISABELLA ROSSELLINI
AUGUST 08, SYNCHRO STAGE
Isabella Rossellini ‘s new one woman show Darwin’s Smile reconciles two worlds that are often at the opposite ends: art and science. Reading Charles Darwin’s book “The Expression of Emotions on Man and Animals” revealed to her that the continuity between human and animals can also be detected in the expression of emotions.
Isabella explores how empathy, that is at the base of acting, is also necessary for the studies of animal behavior (ethology). The show is both a lesson on evolution and acting. In her usual comical tones, she demonstrates how acting could be used to understand the mysterious nature of animals and their emotions. With humor and simple, innocent devices she plays on stage dogs, cats, chickens, peacocks, and of course Charles Darwin. Darwin’s Smile show is an opportunity to learn while being entertained and laughing all about the art of acting and complex scientific theories.

ARTIST
ANDREY VERESHCHAGIN
ART GALLERY

"The task of systematism: to influence a person energetically, transmitting to him the principles of the triad, to restore balance and harmony to the world."
Andrey Vereshchagin
The paintings presented now are objects of a new, modern trend of abstract art – systematism, designated in the first decade of the 2000s by Russian-American artists Dmitriy Gaev-Orlov and Andrey Vereshchagin.
"The artist artistically operates with the simplest geometric forms: ideal Platonic bodies, squares, triangles, circles on which the universe is based, combines abstract signs, putting together certain systems from them. And he directs his art, which is akin to scientific, to their study. With the fervor of Leonardo da Vinci ... the master plunges into the search for the deep laws of nature, illustrating various positions of science, acting synchronously with it. This is how those impressive formulas of light are obtained, which, full of energy, vibrate in space. Such art forces viewers to look for analogies of what is represented in nature, both material and social".
Turchin Valeriy Stefanovich, Doctor of Art History

Systematism as an artistic phenomenon obviously demonstrates its connections with the traditions of the Russian Avant-garde. He accepts the legacy of Malevich, who denied the hierarchy of the relationship between form and color and proclaimed the painted plane as the most elementary form of expression of pure color, freed from the pressure of objects, and at the same time believed that in the boundlessness of space, geometric planes of laconic forms and colors are better suited as an initial style module for general and specific processes of shaping. Relying, like the avant-garde artists, on the philosophical conceptual cognition of the world at the heart of the creative process, the artists of Systematism preserve and revive its messianic ideas: through the use of new artistic forms and symbols to influence the social environment, in general, and the thinking and behavior of an individual, in particular.
Significant in the statement of the connection between Systematism and the search for Russian Avant-garde artists of the beginning of the last century is the choice of a white background as a symbol of infinite space. Andrey Vereshchagin chooses laconic color solutions against the background of a vibrating textured white, or conditionally white – gold or silver, canvas. Moreover, the texture of the canvas is brought to a bas-relief, creating lines of energy flows, vibrations designed to harmonize the space and the viewer.
The mathematical nature of the constructions, the combination of basic geometric forms with space connects the search for Systematism with the heritage of the Avant-Garde. But in his philosophical essence, the avant-garde artist destroyed all the old ties, the basic artistic norms of the old world. In contrast, the artist of Systematism proclaims a new method of harmonizing society through the application of the principles of the triad. Remaining undoubtedly its heir, conceptually Systematism invests new meanings in the artistic forms developed by the Russian Avant-garde.

ARTIST
MILA HALIZOVA
ART GALLERY

Mila Halizova was born in 1992. As the granddaughter of a cabinetmaker and a pediatrician, she has long been fascinated by these natural sources of inspiration and manual work.
From 2010–2016, she studied at the Institute of Architecture, Department of Costume Design in Penza. During her studies, she worked in her atelier, where she experimented with textiles. After her graduation, she continued to work at her atelier and started her brand, Mila Halizova.
As an independent artist, she won an art contest at Moscow Art Square, where she was granted free education at a university. During this period, clothing was a central outcome of her creative process. She prefers to use quality, mostly natural and recycled materials, with the idea of upcycling. The way it comes together is organic.
However, designing clothes eventually became less important to her. She wanted to explore her artistic vision because it was always more than just designing clothes. She moved to Kaliningrad, where she had a studio and experimented with natural and recycled products. She challenged herself to make functional designs and art objects, inspired by the Baltic Sea, culture, and tradition.

Since 2022, she has been producing her new works in Montenegro.
By observing the life cycles of her materials, the artist was able to implement a philosophy based on an analysis of ephemerality, ranging from preservation to decay.
Her large tactile works combine collected natural objects such as acorns, seeds, inflorescences, cones, and algae. One could say that the visual impression of her work is derived from its tactility. All materials are found during the artist’s frequent nature walks around the Bay of Kotor area and mountains. More recent investigations of her studio practice include soil, gypsum and resin. “Conjunction” refers to the physical connection between the two most important elements of her practice: her methods and materials, and how they are intertwined or conjoined. This process echoes the artist’s deeply personal experiences and associations, as demonstrated by the titles of many of her paintings.
Elements are simplified and pared down to what is essential. With such simplicity, the viewer can appreciate not only the sculptural details, such as the harmonious nature of connecting materials, but also the beauty and wonder offered by nature, which we often overlook.
The elegant simplicity of Mila Halizova’s line belies its complex process. The expression of beauty, while exploring the properties of natural elements, remains at the heart of her practice. The sensitive interpretation of Mila’s paintings does not stop at their surface, which only acts as a skin, hiding a much deeper and less straightforward level of interpretation.

“This is an artist enchanted by his perfected craft, he easily embarks on the adventure of creating his own world. Poetically, he is deliberately loyal to the motifs of landscape and still life. Sympathetically relying on the experiences of the old masters, and those of classic arts, Marsenić chooses his motifs as mere entry points for his canvases. What happens next is what we shall call a process of reduction, in the sense of emphasizing, allaying, softening, putting accents in place... all of this with the single objective of harmonizing the image, and these are the main points driving his poetic expression. This “upgrading” being the essence of the artist’s work, the latter is completely captured by it, and he embarks on a journey of bringing all things possible to utter perfection. Meticulous colouring (with predominant warm tones), reduced forms with texture well-preserved in order to show perfect command of picturality and the power of brush-strokes, and impressionist-like light. This imaginary light, the wavering of colours, the subtle expression created by multiple layers of paste – these make the observer wonder whether there is a motif with a real subject in front of them or a mere artistic impression. Whatever the case might be, this artistic method requires a great amount of time to be spent by the easel. The process of surface covering brings about respect and trust – toward the craftsmanship incorporated in the act of art-making. Another impression one cannot escape is “space experienced”, interpreted by ear rather than estranged, which suggests a nostalgic relation between the artist and the motifs chosen. All of this places Marsenić’s art in the field of moderate postexpressionism, or moderate expressive realism if you may. However I believe that art historians will put more focus on the lyrical and the magic radiated by this talented artist, and on how he holds it, how he creates it and conveys it.”

“I mostly deal with human imaging, i.e. man, his existence, his identity crises, which are very common today as the world around us is changing at a striking pace, which requires us to adjust quickly, and we are not always likely to succeed”
“The expressionist manner, the figuration, the use of natural materials, the application of colour to sculptures, the geometric reduction of forms, the vitalism and the magic all characterize my work defining my personal artistic style”

ARTIST
MESH ART INSTALLATION
BY SYNTHESIS ART STUDIO

The Mesh light sculpture is a symbiosis of nature and technology. Among the trees and plants float metallic bionic clouds. They seem invisible, but when a spotlight catches them out of the twilight, they appear from the void and then disappear just as unexpectedly. The texture of Mesh resembles products of civilization, and its shape, close to organic yet artificial, simultaneously attracts and intrigues. Mesh is the post-evolution of the living into the cybernetic.

The entire garden is a single, dynamically changing organism. Plants fill it with life from the ground, while mesh clouds come alive in the sky through light streams, as if powered by energy. They seem illusory, yet at the same time, completely tangible.

ARTIST
ELEMENTARY ART INSTALLATION
BY SYNTHESIS ART STUDIO

An interactive audiovisual art installation Elementary works with space, which, being a physically flat screen, is visually transformed into a voluminous, but at the same time transparent, minimalist construction that interacts with the light and shadows of internal virtual elements, as if it were happening in reality.

Translucent interactive elements, presented in the form of deforming suprematist abstractions, appear in the scale and context of the viewer’s visual and sound perception of an object that does not exist in reality but refers to something existing in nature. And the viewer himself becomes an active participant in the creation of the generative art composition.
